Miley Cyrus has put an end to speculations of “cheating” being the cause of her separation with Liam Hemsworth. In a Twitter post, she mentioned that, “I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating,” She admitted to cheating in relationships when she was young but insisted that her marriage ended because of entirely different reasons.
Liam Hemsworth filed for divorce from Miley a few days back, stating irreconcilable differences as the reason for his petition. This came a week after the celebrity couple separated, leaving their fans disheartened. Liam has been tight-lipped about the issue all through this time.
Having been approached by The Daily Mail Australia earlier, the visibly subdued actor said that “You don’t understand what it’s like. I don’t want to talk about it, mate.” The divorce petition also mentions that the couple has a prenuptial agreement in place and there were no “no community assets.”
In an earlier Instagram post Liam had addressed the issue and stated that “this is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets.”
He also graciously wished Cyrus “nothing but health and happiness going forward.” He concluded by saying “Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love.”
Cyrus seemed to reflect that sentiment when she mentioned in her latest post that, “Liam and I have been together for a decade. I’ve said it before & it remains true, I love Liam and always will,” She also added, “What I cannot accept is being told I’m lying to cover up a crime I haven’t committed. I have nothing to hide.”
Miley also performed a breakup anthem named “Slide Away” related to her separation, in the MTV VMA’s stage last week.
In a reflective post about life addressed to her fans after the news of the split broke out, Miley had written that “Don’t fight evolution, because you will never win. Like the mountain I am standing on top of, which was once under water, connected with Africa, change is inevitable.”
A source close to the couple said to PEOPLE that the separation was not a shock to those who were close to the couple. “They’re not on the same page when it comes to a lot of fundamental things that make a relationship work. It’s not surprising at all,” the source said.
Since meeting for the first time on the set of “The Last Song” in 2009, Liam and Miley have shared an on and off relationship. They initially got engaged in 2012, moved apart and got back together again in 2015. They got married in a private ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee, in December last year.
