Zimbabwean Vimbai Chapungu becomes the first black to win Miss London

Black is beautiful has been the common saying and the year 2019 has seen a lot of black people breaking barriers, going beyond and defying odds. She is the first black person to hold the title and also a finalist for this year’s Miss England beauty pageant.

Chapungu wore her natural hair during the pageant and she appeared in the top three of the 55 contestants for the bare-faced model title according to a Zimbabwean local newspaper.

Vimbai Chapungu is a classically trained singer, a student, and a part-time model.

She is studying for a Masters’ degree in Geography at a London university.

Chapungu, 24, recently took part in the Miss England Final held in Newcastle where the contestants participated in Sports Round and Talent Round to an eco-wear Round and even a general knowledge quiz.

She qualified as one of the 50 finalists out of the other 20,000 women that entered this year’s competition.

I am truly grateful to be Miss London 2019 and  I look forward to represent the capital city in the England finals. Once again thank you all for your support. I am overwhelmed by the kindness you have all,” she posted.
